I've traveled it several times. In dry conditions, it's usually quite good. In wet weather, however, the road surface turns to a "snot-like" consistency and is <em>very</em> slippery. In addition, it's impossible to cross Cottonwood Wash when it's flowing. Given our recent weather (specifically, the rain storms of January 21 and 22, 2010), I probably wouldn't attempt it anytime soon; wait until the county graders have gone through. I enjoy going back to Phoenix from Prescott via the "back way", however I hate the Yarnell cliff. I'm thinking about looping around route 96/62 through Kirkland, Hillside and Date, into Congress. The topography on the map looks like it goes through low ground. Can you comment on the quality of those roads, and also on the safety (cliff roads)? I have a high clearance Ford Truck, but I still don't like dangerous roads like the Yarnell cliff. Thanks, Richard Maria,
