Logic has nothing to do with development in Wickenburg. Take a small town that's loved by residents for its open spaces and start cramming in houses anywhere you can. There's money going around, that's for sure.

Yes, the other end of the runway is starting to be a problem, too. Several years ago, they sold off 5 and 10 acre lots at "Black Mountain Ranch." At the time, I was involved at the airport and went to speak to the developer about the proximity to the airport -- literally under the airport's traffic pattern. He got angry and claimed the airport was rarely used. Oddly enough, this coming Tuesday the Airport Advisory Commission is discussing a noise complaint made by a Black Mountain Ranch homeowner.

The town of Wickenburg has received strong letters from the FAA and AOPA recommending that the Hermosa Ranch development not be built. These letters have been ignored. It should be interesting to see how much future funding the airport gets from the FAA. After all, by building so close to the airport, the town is basically setting up the airport for closure. Why would the FAA spend any more money there?

Seems logical that you wouldn't build homes at the end of a runway - especially in a growing area. Haven't really followed this issue. Has the developer been given the go-ahead to develop the property? Is there also a similar issue at the other end of the airport?

thanks

The Sun was happy to print Mr. Ferman's letter and did so in the first publication after he turned the letter in. See The Wickenburg Sun, Jan. 17 issue, page A4.
