Several years ago I went to the exact site of the Walnut Grove Damn and with the permission of the property owner stood where the dam was. Old cables still hang from the canyon wall, the old pilot house once mounted at the dam now sits upstream in a pasture. Standing there I could almost hear the shouts of the men on that terrible night as the dam conditioned worstened and eventually failed when the men tried to blow debrise that clogged the spillway. Truely a memorable trip to a historical place in the history of Arizona!

Kind Regards

Hi Everyone,

I have visited Wickenberg many times on my way up to Stanton and Congress to go to the Devils Nest Claims up on Rich Hill. I still find gold up there but usually go with one of the gold clubs in the area and work the claims. I did not know that there was a Walnut Grove Dam Site. Some of my friends have always wanted to drive down toward the lower part of the Hassayampa River but have not gotten round to it. We are heading up that way next month when it cools down a bit. I am so glad that you published the map noted above as I will bookmark your site and share it with my friends.

Thank you. Patti
