If you’re a regular wickenburg-az.com visitor, you may notice something different: the entire appearance of this Web site. After putting it off for nearly two years, I’ve finally gotten around to updating the site’s software. And, as part of that process, I’ve introduced a new theme that will determine the appearance of the site.
Over the next few weeks, the site will be completely reworked in a new format. Although all content should be accessible during this time, you may get the occasional error messages while accessing features. Please feel free to post a comment on this post to share problems you …

Just a quick note to remind local businesses that our new Business Directory has become the most popular content on this site. Our activity logs show that more than half of the people who visit this site each day also visit the Business Directory.
If your business isn’t in the Directory, you are missing on a cost-free, no-strings-attached way to make contact with potential customers or clients. Why would you pass up this opportunity? Get listed now and tell the other local business owners you know.
Together, we can make this a valuable resource for Wickenburg residents and visitors — and help your …

Did you know wickenburg-az.com maintains an interactive Calendar of Events in the Wickenburg area?
The calendar is accessible from two places on this site:
In the navigation sidebar’s Read These First! area, you’ll find a link to the calendar. Click the link to open a new browser page with the calendar inside it. You can use buttons on the calendar to switch between day, week, and month views and move forward or backward through dates. Clicking an item may display additional information about it.
Farther down in the navigation sidebar’s Upcoming Events area, you’ll find a list of the next five scheduled events. If …

I want to start out by thanking the folks who have contributed their photos to wickenburg-az.com over the years. Our Photo Tours topic area remains one of the most popular areas on the site.
I also want to point out that our new site format makes it possible to display much larger photos than before. So while older posts have decidedly small images, all new posts — including those that contain only photos — will have images up to 504 pixels wide (that’s 7 inches at 72 dpi).
I’d like to encourage other Wickenburg shutterbugs to submit their photos for inclusion on the …

Surprise!
After nearly two full years with our WordPress-based Web site and its original design, I decided to update WordPress and completely redesign the site. What you’re seeing right now is the new design, based on a WordPress theme by Nurudin Jauhari.
About the New Design
I chose this design because it makes it possible to show off photos of Wickenburg in the header area while offering a clean, easy-to-read format for content. The page design is wider and looks better on computer monitors set to 1024×768 or wider. But if your screen isn’t quite that wide, you won’t be punished. The navigation bar …

I recently received the following e-mail message from Jennie, a Glasgow-based author, on my wickenburg-az.com Webmaster e-mail account:
Hello there! I’m a writer, and in the course of my work I often research small towns in different countries. I’d just like to say that your pages about Wickenburg are among the most impressive I’ve seen. It’s really nice to see something which goes into so much detail and which has clearly been created by people who love the place. You’re a great example to communities everywhere.
Needless to say, I was flattered. I replied:
May I quote you on this?
Sadly, the local Chamber of …

Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of grumbling from folks who don’t like some of the things we’ve got to say here about Wickenburg. Oddly enough, none of them have stepped forward and offered to write down their thoughts about the town. I guess it’s a lot easier for them to complain. But if they actually care about the town, they should be willing to share their thoughts
So now I’m challenging Wickenburg residents to share their thoughts about the town here, in a forum that’s accessible to and read by thousands of people all over the world. And in case you’re …

I had a troubling e-mail from one of this site’s authors the other day. He was upset that another author (and I, indirectly) had published the location of a nearby natural wonder. When I responded that I saw no reason not to publish the location — especially since it was already published in a popular local book by Dana Burden — he told me to remove all of his articles from the site.
Although I thought his response was extreme (and more than a little childish), I do understand his concern. Many people who go out into the desert and stumble upon …

This month, wickenburg-az.com celebrates its EIGHTH YEAR providing information about and for the town of Wickenburg, AZ.
Eight years is a long time for any Web site and, throughout the years, wickenburg-az.com has seen many changes. Begun in 1999 as a community Web site for local businesses, organizations, and residents to share information about Wickenburg, it soon evolved into a repository of articles about the town by a limited number of contributors. Some regular contributors — such as Official State Liar, Jim Cook — have provided content since the very beginning of the site’s existence and continue to do so today. Others …
