Serenity Farms Feed & Tack

The other day, I stopped by a new feed and tack store in town, Serenity Farms Feed & Tack. This business, which is located on the Phoenix Highway south of town, offers a wide variety of horse feed and care products, including hay, saddle blankets, fly control products, and tack.

Originally located in Laveen, Serenity Farms is owned and operated by Matthew Bean. He was working the counter when we visited and gave us a friendly greeting. He filled us in on his products, including his source of hay, and made us feel welcome.

Most non-feed products are organized …

Kwikprint Offers Printing and More

One of the things I like best about Wickenburg is shopping in small stores. You know what I mean — stores more like the ones you shopped in years ago than warehouses. Stores where it’s possible to buy one item rather than a dozen. Where the person behind the counter actually cares whether you find what you’re looking for. And probably even knows you by name.

There are quite a few stores in Wickenburg that meet that description. One of them is Kwikprint, recently relocated to the brand new Riverside Plaza on East Wickenburg Way, just west of the …

Ginny's Vitamin Village

One of the challenges of running a business in Wickenburg is finding the right mix of unique product, fair price, and convenience for Wickenburg residents and visitors. Ginny’s Vitamin Village has obviously found and mastered this mix — it’s one of the few Wickenburg businesses that has been around for over 30 years.

Ginny’s recently relocated to 662B West Wickenburg Way. The new space, which was formerly occupied by Wickenburg Farmer’s Market, is clean, bright, and airy.

I visited last week and spoke to Barbara, who runs the shop most …

Susanne & Company

Yesterday, I had the distinct pleasure of visiting Susanne & Company, a clothing shop in downtown Wickenburg.

Susanne & Company is located on North Washington Street, down the street from the Wickenburg Sun office. It’s not easy to find if you don’t already know where it is. From the traffic light at Tegner and Wickenburg Way, turn onto north Tegner. Take that to the first left and turn left. At the second block (North Washington), which is just over the railroad tracks, make a right. Susanne & company is on the left, between DeVries Custom Coachworks and the Pollman-Voehl …

Another One Bites the Dust

Wickenburg Farmer’s Market, which Maria featured in a December 13, 2004 article (since deleted), has gone out of business.

I’m not a business expert and I don’t have any inside information, so I can’t tell you exactly why they went out of business. But I suspect it was a combination of two things:

Stiff competition. It’s hard to sell fruits and vegetables in a small store when there are two supermarkets selling fruits and vegetables. While the Wickenburg Farmer’s Market had good prices, it wasn’t as convenient as a supermarket. After all, is it worth making two stops if …
