Say No to Power Lines

Over the last couple of months, I have been attending the line siting hearings for the proposed APS’ TS5 to TS9 500/230 KV Transmission Line through the Northwest Valley.   I am concerned that this entire affair is tantamount to a “land grab” by APS, which taxpayers are paying for now and in the future, by way of taxes, legal proceedings and impending rate increases.   I am also concerned about the appearance of collusion on the part of developers and the City of Peoria to place this line to the north along Scenic Highway 74. Furthermore, by siting this transmission …

Vote for a Change

This year, once again, I’m urging Wickenburg residents to come out and vote…for a change.

As many people who know me well understand, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with Wickenburg for many years. It’s bothered me that the petty politics of the good old boys (and girls) takes precedence over decisions that can benefit the town. Sun Continues to Edit Letters to Editor to Suit its Candidate's Needs

I am really beginning to get upset with the Wickenburg Sun and its editorial practices. This past week I sent a letter to the editor where I offered up some advice and commentary on what I believe were some of …

The Emperor of Peanut Butter

The Journal of Prevarication By Jim Cook Official State Liar of Arizona

Every so often, Miss Ellie asks me to let her know where I want my ashes buried, or scattered.

“Not right away, of course,” she adds kindly.

I told her once that I wanted my remains buried in the rustic cemetery at Burton, Arizona, but my headstone in Wickenburg, as befits a liar.  She figured, correctly, that I was kidding.

But the other day, I told her I wanted my ashes buried under our new granite kitchen countertop, and my epitaph carved in its surface:

JIM COOK

Scott Colbath on the Issues

I’ve been given the opportunity to write some words on my views of the major issues facing Wickenburg during this 2008 election. I will try to be brief, but now that I am being labeled as a “politician”, and the fact that I am an individual who seems to have way too much to say, the chances of this being brief are minimal at best. Bear with me.

Annexation

I reluctantly support annexation. Why? Well, it is an expense for the town to annex new areas. There are additional costs associated with annexation, such as police and fire protection, …
