Wickenburg Dark Sky Advocates

The Wickenburg Dark Sky Advocates is a political action committee, registered with the Town Clerk of the Town of Wickenburg, created to advocate for and support the Town of Wickenburg’s enactment of a Dark Sky Ordinance.

What is a Dark Sky Ordinance?

Dark Sky Ordinances are enacted to protect a community’s night skies from light pollution or urban glow which interferes with being able to see, at night, the starry beauty of deep, dark night skies.

Dark Sky Ordinances typically provide that outdoor lights, at night, should shine downward. Other typical provisions:

Lights should be turned off when not necessary.

Wickenburg’s Tax Options

This is a letter to the editor of the Sun in a timely answer to a Cloe editorial on the same subject which was never published. Although the Sun denies receiving it and has offered to consider publishing it subject to their one month one article rule, my email records clearly show that it was received in the appropriate time frame. Printing it now would mute the desired effect anyway so I think another venue is needed.

Say No to Power Lines

Over the last couple of months, I have been attending the line siting hearings for the proposed APS’ TS5 to TS9 500/230 KV Transmission Line through the Northwest Valley.   I am concerned that this entire affair is tantamount to a “land grab” by APS, which taxpayers are paying for now and in the future, by way of taxes, legal proceedings and impending rate increases.   I am also concerned about the appearance of collusion on the part of developers and the City of Peoria to place this line to the north along Scenic Highway 74. It’s bothered me that the petty politics of the good old boys (and girls) takes precedence over decisions that can benefit the town. The question these people face on a daily basis is: Why do the right thing when you can make a decision that’ll put money in the pockets of your political cronies or family members? In my opinion, these people pick the wrong answer. But they’re …

Sun Continues to Edit Letters to Editor to Suit its Candidate’s Needs

I am really beginning to get upset with the Wickenburg Sun and its editorial practices. They are very quick to accept letters printed in their entirety praising the candidates of their choice who are running for the local representative positions. When I write a letter perhaps critical of their candidate, I have seen time and again how they take special exception to their guidelines and edit out what they don’t want to be seen.

This past week I sent a letter to the editor where I offered up some advice and commentary on what I believe were some of Mayor Ron …
