Concern about September 2 Elections

I am very concerned about the Sept. 2nd Wickenburg Town Council and Mayoral election. I am concerned that my fellow citizens will avoid becoming involved in this very important contest.

I firmly believe that a strong Chamber of Commerce is not only beneficial to Wickenburg, but is very important to the careful future expansion of our town. But, when is the Chamber doing its job and when is it overly extending its boundaries and becoming too controlling? The Chamber has been way too involved in this election, in my humble opinion.

The Chamber receives a very healthy amount of money from …

Town Council Retreat an Excercise in Futility for Townspeople?

Webmaster Note: We’re reprinting this letter to the editor by Jim Ferman as a service to the community, particularly for those residents and visitors who do not read The Wickenburg Sun, where it originally appeared. This reprint is with the permission of the author. – Maria

Dear Editor,

This letter is in response to Councilman John Zerby’s Feb. 28th letter to the editor, in which he states that none of the “Loud Minority” was in attendance at the recent Town Council Retreat. I, for one, was out of town working and was unable to attend. Of all people, Mr. …

Smart Voters Recognized by Developer in Newspaper Ad

I heard through the grapevine that Hermosa Ranch developer Jerry Diddy published a list of all 336 people who signed the petition circulated by Committee to Stop Irresponsible Development volunteers in December, along with a list of the volunteers. These are people who were smart enough to realize that a housing development at the end of Wickenburg Municipal Airport’s recently lengthened runway is just plain stupid.

I have no idea why Mr. Diddy spent his money to place such an ad. If his goal was intimidation, I think he failed miserably. The people who signed the petition were glad — no, …

Election Results In, But Not Final

The Arizona Republic has unofficial election results for Wickenburg on its Web site. The results shown do not include mail-in ballots or absentee ballots, so they are not final and may change. You can review results for yourself by going to http://www.azcentral.com/elections/ and using the options there to view the Mayoral Recall, Council Recall, and Town Council results.

For me, the results are a mixed bag. It was good to see that the Sun’s “slam dunk”‘ candidate was not given another term on the Town Council. Perhaps the town’s people realize that real estate growth interests are not in the best …

Politics as Usual in Wickenburg

I now know what is wrong with the public discussion this election season; there wasn’t any, except for the November surprise by Mr. Fletcher and Mr. Richardson with an unsubstantiated attack on 3 candidates. Mr. Fletcher was allowed the publication of statements founded on error, misinformation and exaggeration and Mr. Richardson distributed a flyer founded on error, misinformation and exaggeration. There are perhaps 100 explanations, most political, but it boils down to this; attack ads seem to work! They are an act of desperation! They want you to believe that you can’t trust anyone anymore and they …
